NYC: Safe and Open for Business!

After sheltering at home for months, the desire to get out and explore seems more urgent than ever. For many concerned about C-19, it’s a matter of packing some bags and hopping in the car. But if you live in large metropolitan areas like NYC or Chicago, you either take the chance and fly, rent a car or hire a private car service like mine.

New Yorkers Ted and Anna flew to Cleveland to visit Ted’s aging mom in Chagrin Falls. They hired my service to return them home to NYC. After an easy 7-hour drive, a few quick pit stops and great conversation, I delivered Ted and Anna to their lovely Chelsea apartment.

But I too have been itching to get out of town, so days before the pre-booked trip, I searched the web and found several nice options for reasonably priced westside hotels. I booked a two-night stay at the cozy and cool Arho Soho. Great Soho location on Hudson, and currently priced at only $98 a night! And as if things couldn’t get better, I found a $40 a night parking lot right across the street!!

Despite negative media reports on current crime and looting sprees in NYC, I spent two wonderful and relaxing days and evening, dining with friends and walking the noticeably less crowded streets of SoHo, East Village, Chelsea and Mid-town. Some shops and restaurants were shuttered but most were open, just modified to accommodate social distancing. I saw short lines of masked, distanced patrons outside smaller shops and bakeries, but for the most part, shops and restaurants were open for business, just modified to accommodate the new normal.

The most noticeable difference were the cleverly constructed outdoor seating grottos and tables that spilled out on the streets. I loved it! It felt like Paris or Milan!

And the deals I got on clothes!! Our socializing options may be limited now, but when things normalize, I will be rested and dressed to the nine’s!!
